The Greeks who accompanied the Order to Malta settled in Birgu and had four churches. By the time the Order moved to Valletta, they had only one Church and this was dedicated to Our Lady of Damascus or Santa Maria dei Greci, and it was run by a Papas as a Parish Church for Greeks. The Church has since been converted into a museum where visitors can see the treasures that were saved from the 1941 bombings. These include:
- the silver cross on which Grandmasters took their oath of office
- Byzantine tapestries richly embroidered in gold and silver
- a sedan chair, old liturgical vestments, and 17th Century silverware
La Valette’s hat and sword, which he offered in thanks giving to commemorate the Victory of 1565
