The Grand Commander of Italy was the Prodomo (Comptroller) of the Arsenal, and he was also responsible for the Arsenal’s stores, their inventory as well as their security. The Palace of the Arsenal’s Superintendent was built in 1721 with its main entrance in Strait Street. This Palace was later demolished.
