In the early 19th Century, Sir Agostino Portelli (who resided in Valletta) built Villa Portelli as his summer residence. Facing Kalkara Creek, the villa has a stone staircase with balustrades on one side and a terrace overlooking Bighi on the other. Its garden extends right up to the sea front.
During the Second World War the villa served as the official residence of the Flag Officer of Malta. It passed to the Admiralty in 1961 and was handed over to the Government of Malta on the 30th January 1979. |
