Since Malta joined the European Union in May 2004, new opportunities arose for Air Malta. The airline immediately took the initiative and started operating intra-European flights between Catania and London’s Gatwick airport. In Summer 2006 the airline will be entering the Italian domestic market with Reggio di Calabria to Rome flights. Air Malta also capitalised on the new opportunities presented by EU membership by setting up bases in the UK and started to operate charter flights from the UK to a number of holiday destinations in Europe.
Air Malta’s products and services include Flyaway Tours which sells holiday packages to Air Malta destinations for groups as well as individuals, FlexiFly - a flexible solution for individual travellers, and Fare4U - a low fare service to London Stansted and Cologne. Air Malta's Flypass is the company's Frequent Flyer Programme based on a mileage-rewards system. It currently has around 25,000 members, and provides its members with a wide range of benefits. Another popular product and service is Flydrive, which in conjunction with Europcar, offers discounted car-hire rates to passengers travelling to all destinations operated by Air Malta. Air Malta’s Business Class passengers enjoy separate check-in desks, extra comfort on the aircraft and specially selected in-flight menus.
Air Malta has its own dedicated Conference & Incentive unit, to assist in the planning and coordination of travel arrangements for conference delegates. The unit offers various services for the organisation of these conferences such as, special menus, open bar and customised in-flight announcements. Help desks with reservation facilities can also be set-up at the conference venue.
Air Malta continues to be the prime air transport enterprise and throughout the years has invested in markets which have the potential to augment Malta’s tourism intake. The airline remains the main operator offering the most extensive choice of air services to get to Malta. No other airline serving Malta is committed to the Maltese community and Malta’s economy as Air Malta.
