Mediterranean Aviation Company Limited (MEDAVIA) is a Maltese registered company, based in Malta with Libyan interests forming part of the LAFICo group of companies. It was inaugurated on the 21st of August 1978 with the primary objective of servicing the oil industry casting particular attention to oil drilling companies in the African continent.
During its 25 years of operation, MEDAVIA passed through several restructuring programs that, although necessitated by the prevailing circumstances, served to broaden its services considerably. Such was MEDAVIA’s success that its capabilities became recognised internationally and are now being sought after by various reputable organisations outside its traditional trading parameters.
Nowadays the Company’s activities fall into three main categories, namely:
Flight Operations & Charters
 MEDAVIA’s purpose was, and still is, to serve the oil sector in North Africa (seismic, drilling and production companies), providing Charter Flights to various destinations. The fleet today consists of two CASA 212 200 series, two Beechcraft 1900D and one Dash-8 100 series.
The CASA aircraft’s main feature is its short take off and landing (S.T.O.L.) capability, ideal for clients with restricted runway facilities. On the other hand, our Beechcraft is faster. Over the years, this department used its experience and knowledge to expand into other areas related to the Aviation Industry which include:
Handling various requests from Aircraft landing either in Malta’s International Airport or in Tripoli International Airport. These requests vary from fuel and catering to landing amenities.
MEDAVIA provides several Governments, Heads of State and celebrities with Luxury aircraft worldwide. Organising flights to and from anywhere in the world at very short notice respecting entirely the need for discretion at all times.
- Flight Operational Services
Due to experience and contacts, offering our clients worldwide services such as overflight and landing permit requests, handling and fuel arrangements, hotel accommodation and catering.
Our Operations Department has extensive experience in managing aircraft of all types. Our Management contracts are flexible and allow the owner to reserve his own pilots. The owner may retain exclusive use of the aircraft or may choose to integrate it with MEDAVIA’s fleet.
Aircraft Maintenance
 MEDAVIA’s maintenance facility was established in 1985 and initially was set up to overhaul, repair and service the Company’s own aircraft. This activity developed progressively and now maintains third party aircraft. Our Maintenance facility is EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) certified, carrying out its work under the JAR145 approval. The Maintenance Department also carries out aircraft maintenance overseas. Most of Medavia’s engineers and technicians have been working on our CASA fleet since the beginning of our operation, making us the leading civilian CASA 212 Maintenance facility outside Spain.Maintenance, repairs, modifications, installations and overhauls are performed in our hangars in Malta. A multinational team of qualified, licensed engineers and technicians, with diverse backgrounds and experience, operate on-site shops, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and tooling.
Commercial Services
The Technical Services Department was originated to service the company but has since grown to embrace wide ranging duties and responsibilities. Working from its’ purposely built office block, this department procures aviation spares from JAA and FAA approved suppliers, for use on our own aircraft as well as to clients’ requirements.
A complete procurement general industrial nature service is also offered outside the aviation industry. The Department can procure, manage logistics, supply and deliver anything from the smallest washer up to items as large as one megawatt generating sets, on time, every time.
Project Management is one of the latest services this department added to its portfolio of current services. The departments core competence is the ability to bring together a vast array of third party specialists to provide its’ customers with a complete package. Over the last years, this department has handled a number of medium sized projects, ranging from the design and construction of an Aircraft Hangar to major refurbishment of an Airport and a Power Station.
Today, MEDAVIA is considered to be a highly efficient, excellently trained and internationally accredited enterprise, with more than 110 full time employees.
Corporate Travel
 The setting up of a Travel Agency was conceived after evaluating the company's requirements of airline tickets purchased every year. The nature of the work entails frequent travelling around the world for different purposes all year round. Furthermore from the feasibility studies carried out, it resulted that even though Malta is saturated with Travel agencies, a niche market was identified. This was the Corporate Traveler!
Medavia Services Co. Ltd was set up on the 1st March 2001 and was duly accredited as an IATA agency on the 15th August 2001. The company employed experienced and qualified staff, and began offering both incoming and outgoing travel, targeting mainly large corporations, executives and business owners' providing them with a solution for all their travel requirements. Medavia Services successfully targeted Medavia's long list of clientele, giving it the initial push that was needed and which in turn helped our Agency fine tune the services it was offering.
The raison d’être of Medavia Services is to, save time and money for our business Partners. While our clients plan their business strategy we plan their travel requirements.
