The breach (Il-Prexxa) |
|
It was from this spot, facing Xewkija Bay, Kalkara, that the Turkish Army succeeded in breaching the bastion and penetrating the walls of the city, during the Great Siege of 1565. In the Skirmish that ensued, Grand Master La Valette was wounded as he led the defenders to expel the invading Marauders. |

Holy Infirmary Sally Port |
|
This Gate was built around 1532 after the Order erected the Holy Infirmary. A tunnel was dug to quickly transport the sick or injured seamen from shore to hospital by boat rather than on land by horse drawn carriage. |

Jews Sally Port or Bighi Sally Port |

The Sally Port existed prior to the arrival of the Order and was used by Jewish Traders to load and unload their wares from the quay. |
