With the four localities of Vittoriosa, Senglea, Cospicua, and Kalkara having access to the sea, there is no doubt that the inhabitants are sea-lovers by nature and many have a small boat for leisure purposes. Some still practice the inherited old traditional skills of boat building and each locality has its own boat club. The members of these clubs test their boating skills in the popular Regattas which have been taking place since the time of the Knights. The Regattas are keenly contested every year on Freedom Day (31^st March) and Victory Day (8^th September).
