The British did not fail to introduce tennis in Cottonera – where they also built a number of tennis courts – and the Region has one of the best organised tennis clubs in Malta. The Rinella Tennis Club was set up to promote the game mainly amongst Kalkara youths on the 6th June 1990 at the old Naval Wireless and Telegraphy station. This building has adjoining tennis courts and now also enjoys a floodlit court.
This club still holds a training programme twice a year, and participates regularly in the National Tennis League that is organised by the Malta Tennis Federation. It also features regular tournaments in which foreign players are invited to participate. |
